Treatment Planning Conference (Tumor Board) Minimize
 About the Conference

The multidisciplinary Head and Neck Treatment Planning Conference (TPC) meets to discuss patients with newly diagnosed head and neck cancer, or patients with an established diagnosis and persistent or recurrent disease, who need a treatment decision made.

The TPC meets every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in the Moores UCSD Cancer Center Board Room.

Patient histories are presented by the attending and/or resident directly involved with the case. Pertinent pathology slides are reviewed with the group by the surgical pathologist in attendance. Radiographs are reviewed by the head and neck radiologist attending the conference. The disciplines of surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, and dental medicine are represented. After the multidisciplinary discussion, an attempt is made to reach a consensus regarding management. At times, opinions are divided. The recommendations of the group are communicated to the physician in charge of the patient's care.

Scheduling Patients for the Conference

Patients should be scheduled by the Monday before the conference, including delivery of the patient's pathology slides and radiographs to Angel Starr (Moores Cancer Center, 1st Floor). The patient's name, diagnosis, and medical record number (for UCSD and San Diego VA patients) are requested, although only the patient's initials will appear on the tumor conference list. Physicians scheduling patients for TPC are expected to attend and present a brief summary of the patient's case.

To schedule a patient for the next conference, call Angel Starr at (858) 822-6197 [fax (858) 822-6198]. You may also e-mail Angel at mstarr@ucsd.edu.
