This is an increase from UCSD's six specialty areas recognized in the 2007 U.S. News and World Report  "Best Hospitals" issue.

This exceptional showing places UCSD Medical Center among the five leading California hospitals in the total number of top-ranked specialties.  This is an elite group of hospitals; U.S. News screens 5,453 medical centers to identify the best, and this year, only 170 hospitals achieved any rankings, with over half ranking in a single specialty only.

Congratulations to our fellow UCSD departments who also made the list: Respiratory, Cancer, Gynecology, Kidney Disease, Psychiatry, Rheumatology, and Urology.
